Problems Using HVAC for Air Temp Control - Hunter Industrial

If you own an industrial- sized facility, odds are you’ve received an industrial sized electricity bill. Aside from your typical HVAC issues (lack of maintenance, dirty or clogged filters), using an HVAC system alone for temperature control can be considerably costly, inefficient, and hazardous for your employees. To better control the climate of your warehouse or industrial facility, you should be using HVLS fans combined with an HVAC system. You’ll find that your energy costs will go down while feeling an improvement in air temperature.

If you’re still skeptical as to how HVLS fans can help save you money, here are some of the most significant problems with using an HVAC system for air temperature control:

Uneven Heating/Cooling

Since industrial facilities contain ceilings up to hundred-feet high, heating and cooling can be tricky. Most buildings require more than just an HVAC system to properly circulate the air as stratification can pose a significant challenge. Stratification means that hot air rises because it’s less dense than cooler air. Because of this imbalance, the thermostat to your HVAC system at ground level is inaccurately reading a different temperature than what exists. To destratify the air and achieve a more uniform temperature throughout a large space you can install industrial HVLS ceiling fans. Industrial ceiling fans do what typical residential fans cannot in such large facilities, which is successfully mixing the amount of air top to bottom necessary for complete air temperature control.

In the winter for example, a cold warehouse with an HVAC system producing heat may be working more than necessary. The hot air it blows out goes straight to the ceiling and stays there, stagnant because the thermostat is only reading the temperature at ground level. By introducing an industrial fan into the space, the hot air at the ceiling will be pushed down toward employees on the ground. In the summer, your HVAC system may also be working overtime. Because large spaces are so difficult to cool, your HVAC system must continually be producing cold air.

Unreliability

As previously mentioned, HVAC systems can be unreliable whether it’s accurately taking the temperature of a room or malfunctioning. Relying solely on an HVAC system to cool your facility in the summer can be risky. If an HVAC system goes out in the heat of the summer, employees may be susceptible to fatigue or even worse, heat exhaustion. All of this can lead to unsatisfied employees or customers and loss of productivity. If your HVAC system is out of service for any amount of time, your industrial ceiling fans can make a difference in temperature control during those tough situations.

Employee comfort

Air temperature control can be challenging at ground level where your employees work. In the winter HVAC systems can send hot air directly to the ceiling and in the summer leave the air stratified. This places an undue burden on employees who may be forced to wear an excessive number of layers in the winter or risk heat exhaustion in the summer.

Efficiency

Stratified air can be a serious problem across many different facilities with higher than average ceilings. Whether you own an airplane hangar, restaurant or retail store relying on an HVAC system alone for temp control can leave your wallet screaming. If your facility doesn’t have HVLS fans and is relying on an HVAC system alone to heat or cool your building, your HVAC system will have to work harder leading to a variety of HVAC issues. By combining HVLS fans with an HVAC system, you can cut costs by a significant amount, working smarter not harder.

HVLS fan solution

If you’re using your HVAC system alone for air temperature control, chances are you’re spending more money than you need to. HVAC systems have many issues heating and cooling industrial spaces but there is a solution. When HVAC systems are combined with HVLS fans, you can decrease energy costs and increase employee and even customer satisfaction. HVLS fans are proven to save as much as 30 percent on heating and cooling bills. So what’re you waiting for? Visit our website to see how you can start saving money today.
